You could be a perfect role model for teen me! Chronologically, the events of Shards of Honor fall approximately one year before the birth of Miles Vorkosigan ; the tale describes the circumstances of the meeting of his parents Aral Vorkosigan and Cordelia Naismith. Cordelia’s people are a bit more advanced when it comes to the role of women and equality less “stiff” one might say but also kind of unorganized and childish in many instances, while the Barrayaran society is patriarchal and militaristic.

They work together to get off the planet only to get caught up in the increasing tensions and opposing fractions of Barrayar politics. The side characters nicely developed and feeling very much a necessary part of the story.

All in all, delicious more for its accumulated weight of surrounding stories than for it, in itself, but it was definitely a charming space-operatic love story.

Another interesting character is Aral Vorkosigan, but he is a tad more stereotypical for my tastes, but still it didn’t hurt to have him in the book. Vorkosigan Saga Publication 1 – 10 of 16 books. I really liked the Miles Lpis Saga when I first read it in high school over 20 years ago, having read through The Vor Game before heading to college and finding myself too busy to read much SF for the next two decades.

The review must be at least 50 characters long. In a way that this novel has a promising plot, but is suffocated by the superficiality and blandness of Maybe one is spoiled for sci-fi forever after reading Ursula K.

In Bujold’s loiss published novel, The Warrior’s ApprenticeMiles and Elena both appear as teenagers 17 years after the events in Barrayar. I wanted mcmaeter plots and the coups to be a little more fleshed out; I wanted more of the backstory that is only hinted at, particularly some eyebrow-raising hints about Aral’s past relationship with a chief villain.

What I liked about this was that it was a really fast and easy llis, and I found I got into it straight away. Where is the sass-mouthed young princess? View all 22 comments.

Aral told her about his first wifewho had been unfaithful to him due to his absence, his killing of two of her suitors in duels, and her suicide. And it all began here – Shards of Honor is Bujold’s debut novel. It is a peace that earns her only ignominy bujol even though it foreshadows a new beginning, for herself, her lover, and both their peoples.

Aug 11, Caro the L. They meet on an almost unexplored planet one day and need to join forces in order t I’m definitely sold on this series by now. You will also learn a lot about Barrayar’s politics and Betan bureaucracy.

The camp inmates, mostly women, have been mistreated and in some cases raped by their captors. Have read the whole lot of them.

But to refuse the test is to refuse the gift, and something worse, lous irrevocable, than misfortune. It seems like a great jumping off point for the series. I loved this book, I love the world building, and I really hope that the series continues in this manner, because if it does, Evgeny and I are in for a very interesting ride. The Spirit Ring It is deceptively light in the beginning, but makes hoonr sharp turn midway darker and deeper into military and politics, raising uncomfortable questions about duty, honour and conscience, blurring lines between good and bad.

In this series Book 2. But it’s American-style cheese that does so well melted sharrs grilled into a comfort-food delight. Must redeem within 90 days.

Now, captain of a throwaway ship on a mission of deception, she convoys a weapon of wicked subtlety to entrap and destroy sharrds enemy armada. What are these sensible, mature adults doing in the middle of my space opera?
