Bastianich concedes cooking from Boni’s book can be difficult for an American lacking the feel for the culture in which Boni lived and cooked.

Her audience was that educated upper-middle class woman of the time who may have had a housekeeper but could not necessarily afford a cook. Unfortunately, however, the book is much abridged pages as opposed to the original and contains additional, unauthentic recipes of the Italian-American variety, which the American publishers thought were needed to attract readership. It is a bit sad though that there is no proper English translation of this book, expecially because I think feliciy could be useful even today for anybody who wants to learn the basics of Italian cooking.
