Yes, yes, yes – for we conspiracy theorists who are so often mocked, here indeed is a book upon which we are able to rest our case. It is a type of journalism which could not be criticised easily, due to the nature of the facts.
The book is made up of essays exposing the nature of politics, those who are exploited and johhn who are responsible. Consider the accompanying image: Aug 11, Beryl rated it it was amazing.

Red and Black Revolution A chapter is devoted to the Liverpool dockers and their titanic struggle in defence of their jobs, the tremendous international solidarity which was shown for their cause, the almost total media blackout of this “important and dramatic story” – “less the dispute Britain forgot than one that Parliament and the media simply did not want people to hear about”.
A thorough lens through the recent history of the world, Pilger gives a lot of his personal experiences and observations, from Burma to East Timor, from Vietnam to the corrupting British media. For a fourteen year old ‘current affairs’ book the subject matter remains surprisingly relevant. I would say the level of informative, incisive journalism on display here puts him head and shoulders above that bastion of liberal dissent Noam Chomsky, as great an admirer of his that I am.
At times almost reads like a conspiracy theorist, while at others genuinely top quality investigative journalism. He writes well, his style is clear and lucid, and you never feel that he is harping on about a pet hate.

Jkhn 30 years of anarchist writing from Ireland listed under hundreds of topics. Socialism without freedom is hirden and brutality. It was eye-opening and very credible. Today Britain and the United States between them supply more than half of all the weapons sold in the world; almost half of British research and development funds are allocated to defence and much of the sordid trade is tied up in an ingenious scam known as the Aid for Trade Provisions which accounts for more than half of all British ‘aid’ to the developing world.
Though the book is now about 20 years old, the picture in it hasn’t really improved, if not gotten worse though maybe his positive message for the future remains. Together with Noam Chomsky Pilger provides and alternative to the pilge brain washing and media bubbles that passes hidcen journalism.

John Pilger has to be one of the few genuine journalists left in the world. However, reading the book, the ‘why’ is often left unanswered.
